Bali Tourism Board observes the heightened activities of Mount Agung and sees that Balinese communities living around its summit have started to take refuge at the appointed shelters provided by the government of Karangasem Regency.
We praise the Indonesian Meteorology, climatology and Geophysics Bureau ( Badan Metereologi Klimatologi dan Geofisika ) who has been alerting and providing accurate information on the status of the volcano. We also praise the aptness of the government who initiated a coordinative meeting on Sunday 17 September 2017 at 10AM local Bali time and has since been taking pre-emptive measures to provide for those requiring relocation assistance.
Since the alert level was elevated from Level 2 (caution) to Level 3 (alert) on Monday 18 September 2017 at 9PM local Bali time, Bali tourism professionals are actively giving support at the shelters and many are already involved in the preparation for the upcoming Ceremony for Mother Earth "Pengelempana Peneduh Jagat" which will be held on Wednesday 20 September 2017 commencing at 2PM local Bali time at the Mother Temple of Besakih, specifically within Besakih’s compounds of Bangun Sakti Temple, Basukian Temple and Pengubengan Temple. Each family is also advised through the High Priests network across the island to pray within each home temple at the same time tomorrow.
