Lombok Hit By 7.0 Earthquake Bali Remains Safe For Tourists


5 August 2018, Denpasar, Bali – A strong earthquake hit the neighbouring island of Lombok at 18.46 PM local time, Sunday, 5 August 2018. The 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck at a depth of 15km north of Lombok near Loloan, causing strong tremors that were felt throughout all of Bali. A series of minor aftershocks followed thereafter, measuring up to 5.4 and 4.3 in magnitude.

Bali remains relatively safe despite effects on 2 shopping malls and a cathedral in Denpasar and Kuta. 2 deaths was reported. Tsunami warnings have been lifted although seismologists are continuing to monitor for potential tsunami threats.

Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport operates as per normal. Minor damages werereported but the main infrastructure, including runway, taxiway, and apron, remain intact. No tourists have been affected by the earthquake.

Authorities are continuing to monitor the extend of the damage resulting from the earthquake. Tourists and residents are urged to stay calm and not to panic - Bali remains safe for tourists and visitors.
